Inactive profile

Hi Joseph,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to Start>Settings>Ease of Access.
  2. In the left navigation pane, click on Narrator.
  3. In the right pane, under Sounds you hear, change the value to "Off" for words you type.

Hope the information is helpful. Feel free to write to us for any other assistance with Windows, we'll be glad to assist you.

Hi. I ended up finding out the asinine setting that makes the keys click when you type. Not even sure HOW this makes any sense  but under Ease of Use (stupidest name for a settings menu) Keyboard - I turned off "beep when keys are pressed or accepted"

This is not a clear explanation of the issue. Very disappointed in the new settings menus. Not user friendly or conducive in any way. Super convoluted and all over the place. What ever happened to straight forward settings "Sounds - Keyboard Sounds - Click while typing? On/Off"

Eeshwar, thank you for bringing this setting to our attention. I checked, and it was either already off by default or I had turned it off at some point and forgotten about it. It certainly seems like the logical solution but I was still hearing a soft but annoying alert sound. It was audible only through headphones. They are cheap jack connected 'phones, with no software or other complication. I had never heard the sound before and wonder if it was triggered by the involved Windows 10 update that had just been installed. It was the same for each keystroke so it didn't seem to contain any information.

To make the issue even more murky, it is not happening now.

If there is anything more to be said about this later, I have the response notification marked.

jd

Thanks for this response, but mine was already off and got the sound anyway. I had never had the problem before the big Windows 10 update. It did it only when [jack, not bluefang or other wireless] headphones were plugged in. Now it's gone. I'm guessing it was an update glitch they fixed without any fanfare. I've clicked "Notify..." in case the thread becomes active again. I do not want to get stuck, helpless, with that pointless irritation in my ears as I try to listen to music. jd
